Service User's Rights

We place the rights of residents at the forefront of our philosophy of care.

Privacy

  • We recognise that living in a communal setting and the need to receive assistance with personal tasks inherently compromises a service user's ability to enjoy solitude and pleasure undisturbed.
  • Providing assistance in intimate situations as discretely as possible.
  • Helps residents furnish and equip their rooms to their liking.
  • Provides a range of locations around the house for occupants to be alone or with selected others.
  • Provide locks for storage spaces, bedrooms, and other service user rooms where residents must sometimes be left alone.
  • Ensures service users' privacy when using the telephone, opening, and reading mail, and communicating with friends, family, or counsellors.
  • Ensuring the privacy of the service users' information that the home holds.

Dignity

Disabilities quickly undermine dignity, so we try to maintain respect for the intrinsic worth of users of our services in the following ways:

  • Treating each resident as a valued individual.
  • Helping residents identify themselves to others by how they dress, their appearance, and their behavior in public.
  • Offering a range of activities that allow each service user to express themselves as a unique individual.
  • Addressing the stigma that our service users may experience due to their age, disability, or status.
  • Compensating for the consequences that service users' limitations may have on their ability to communicate, physical functioning, mobility, or appearance.

Choice

Our goal is to help residents enjoy the ability to choose from a range of choices in all areas of life by:

  • Providing meals that allow residents to decide where, when and with whom they choose to eat the food and drink of their choice as much as possible.
  • Providing residents with a range of recreational activities.
  • Maintaining the regular routines of the home are as flexible as possible.
  • Providing residents with a range of recreational activities.
